The climate of Turkey

Turkey - a predominantly mountainous country, so the climate has an average mountain character and traits of continental.

On the coast of the Mediterranean and Aegean seas subtropical Mediterranean climate. Summer dominated by hot and dry climate the average temperature - +23 ... +35°C. The driest period - July and August. In winter much rain falls, the snow cover is not formed. The air temperature does not drop below + 10°C.
The beach season on the Mediterranean coast is the longest in Turkey, from early April to late October. In July the water warms up to + 28°C. The most popular holidays in the "velvet season" in September and October: the summer heat subsides and the sea is still warm.

The climate of the coast of the Sea of Marmara is similar to the Mediterranean. However, the swimming season is shortened to a period between June and September. Winters are mild, but cooler than on the south coast.

On the Black Sea coast climate is temperate maritime, with warm summers and cool winters. The average winter temperature is + 5°C and 23°C  in summer. Throughout the year it often rains, the total precipitation up to 1000 - 2500 mm per year. In summer the temperature on average 27°C.  The water in the sea warms up to + 26°C.

The climate of center of the country (Central Anatolian region) close to continental with inherent  sharp contrasts of annual temperatures. In winter, frequent frosts to -4 ° C, while in summer the air is heated to + 38°C. Precipitation typical for the winter months, and more moderate in comparison with the Black Sea coast.

Eastern regions of the country (South-Eastern and Eastern Anatolia region) have a pronounced continental character. Summer dominated by hot and dry weather (in July to + 42°С), and in the winter - cold and snowy (frequent frosts up to -16°C). Most of precipitation are in the autumn and spring. Sharp temperature fluctuations occur not only depending on the time of year, but during the day: the differential can be up to 20°С. Highlands causes the preservation of snow up to 4 months of the year.
